Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement

The Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement (ALRM) is a not-for-profit Aboriginal community organisation that also runs a law practice across South Australia. It gives free legal help to Aboriginal people.

The criminal section handles criminal cases. The civil section deals with compensation claims, child protection and family law. ALRM also puts a focus on coronial inquests. It does not take on commercial civil matters.

ALRM also runs social programs for Aboriginal prisoners and people recently released from custody, and speaks out on legal and policy issues that affect Aboriginal people.

ALRM has its head office at 321-325 King William Street, Adelaide. It also has regional offices in Port Augusta and Ceduna. It serves Aboriginal people throughout South Australia, and the Freecall number is for callers in SA only.

ALRM provides free legal aid to Aboriginal people in criminal law, child protection and family law. It also helps with non-commercial civil law, with an emphasis on coronial inquests and compensation claims. Its Custody Notification Service, prisoner care program and financial counselling sit alongside the legal work. Emergency calls are taken on a 24 hour line.
