Cairns Community Legal Centre

Cairns Community Legal Centre is a not-for-profit community organisation that gives free legal help to people in the Cairns region who face disadvantage. It was established in 1991 and is government funded.

The General Legal Service helps with family law, domestic and family violence, employment law, criminal law, traffic matters and motor vehicle damage. Other services cover discrimination and human rights, mental health, consumer law, seniors and family law.

The centre gives information, referrals and legal advice. In some cases it also provides ongoing casework. It cannot help with immigration, personal injuries, commercial work or buying and selling houses.

The centre has its office at 82 Grafton Street, Cairns. It serves people in the Cairns region and runs outreach services in Innisfail, Atherton, Mareeba and the Cairns Hospital Mental Health Unit. Its seniors service also covers Cape York and the Torres Strait.

The centre's General Legal Service handles family law, employment law, criminal law, traffic matters, motor vehicle damage and domestic and family violence. Separate services cover discrimination and human rights, mental health, consumer law, elder abuse and a domestic and family violence duty lawyer. All services are free for people experiencing disadvantage.
