HIV/AIDS Legal Centre

The HIV/AIDS Legal Centre (HALC) helps people in NSW who have legal problems linked to HIV or hepatitis. It is a not-for-profit community legal centre and says it is the only one of its kind in Australia.

HALC gives free legal help, within its operational guidelines. It also runs community legal education and law reform work on HIV and hepatitis.

People who need advice can contact the centre to start an intake. Lawyers and other services can also make an intake for a client.

HALC has one office at 414 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills, in the ACON Building on the corner of Elizabeth and Devonshire Streets. It is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm. It helps people across NSW.

HALC specialises in legal matters linked to HIV and hepatitis. The website says it works to counter stigma and discrimination. It also runs legal training and education for its staff and volunteers, and takes law students on practical legal training placements.
