About
Inner Melbourne Community Legal is a not-for-profit community legal centre. It gives free legal help to people on low incomes in the City of Melbourne area. The service began in 1978 as the North Melbourne Legal Service.
It focuses on people facing hardship, including those experiencing homelessness, mental illness, disability or substance dependency, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The centre helps with family law, family violence, fines, debts, tenancy, criminal law and victims of crime. It also runs community legal education and works on law reform, including police accountability.

For the last 7 years I have suffered greatly with DV and only in the last 2 years had the courage to report to police to protect my son and I. I did not want to appear at court in fear and anxiety to see my ex. I had a recommendation to go and see Charlotte at Inner Melbourne Community Legal and was able to watch FVIO the court hearing anonymously. From the front desk staff to Charlotte's amazing legal representation on my behalf at court, I cannot recommend or speak highly enough of them all. In particular, my FVIO matters that Charlotte has done so far, she has picked up errors that the prosecution had made to the magistrates and able to correct them all and support our case. Please never close this centre and never let Charlotte go, as a single mum that has suffered so much I would be lost without her support.
