James Dowsley & Associates helps people facing criminal charges in Victoria. The firm acts in all levels of court, from the Magistrates' Court to the High Court, and takes urgent calls on a 24 hour advice line, seven days a week.

Its work includes bail applications, drink driving, assault, drug offences, family violence and intervention orders, and appeals. The firm also acts in some quasi-criminal matters, such as licence restorations and coronial inquests.

James Dowsley opened the firm in Frankston in 2007. It is a preferred provider and panel firm of Victoria Legal Aid and acts for both private and legally aided clients.

The firm has three offices, in Melbourne CBD, Frankston and Dandenong. It acts for clients in all parts of Victoria and can attend court interstate if needed.

The firm does criminal defence work only. Its services include bail, drink driving, traffic offences, sexual offences, assault, theft and burglary, drug offences, murder and manslaughter, fraud, appeals, and family violence matters. Three of its lawyers are Law Institute of Victoria accredited criminal law specialists, and several others have more than 10 years of experience. It also acts for clients eligible for Victoria Legal Aid funding.
