Knowmore Legal Service

Knowmore is a free, independent and confidential legal service for survivors of child sexual abuse and for Stolen Generations survivors. It helps people understand their legal rights and choices, including redress and compensation.

Lawyers work alongside support workers, financial counsellors and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement staff. The team is trained to work with people who have experienced trauma.

Knowmore began work in 2013, helping people give information to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. It is funded by the Commonwealth Government.

Knowmore is a national service with a Brisbane office on Edward Street. The website does not list other office locations, so the claim of offices throughout Australia is not supported. It helps survivors across Australia and can be reached on 1800 605 762 from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Knowmore advises survivors of child sexual abuse on the National Redress Scheme, compensation claims and civil claims. Its lawyers also help Stolen Generations survivors with the WA and Territories redress schemes. Financial counsellors advise on managing redress payments. The service is free, and it also gives advice on claim farming in personal injury cases in Queensland.
