Launceston Community Legal Centre

Launceston Community Legal Centre gives free legal advice to vulnerable and disadvantaged Tasmanians. It is a not-for-profit centre, set up in 1986, and it is funded by government.

Clients can book a free 45 minute advice appointment with a solicitor on most civil matters, such as consumer problems, boundary fences, fines and small claims. The centre also helps with Centrelink and welfare rights, disability discrimination, employment law and family law.

It runs an after-hours clinic on Wednesday evenings, an outreach clinic program and court support for culturally and linguistically diverse clients in the Magistrates Court. Clients can call (03) 6334 1577 to make an appointment.

The centre is at Suite 2, Level 2, 42-48 St John Street, Launceston, Tasmania. It serves vulnerable and disadvantaged Tasmanians, with its welfare rights service focused on residents of the north of the state. It also runs an outreach clinic program.

The centre's solicitors give free advice on general civil matters, disability discrimination, employment law and family law. A welfare rights advocate helps with Centrelink and Department of Social Services issues, including appeals to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. The centre also supports culturally and linguistically diverse clients in the Magistrates Court and runs legal education programs with legal literacy volunteers. Its solicitors do not draft wills.
