Hello Marrickville Legal Centre Team, I am writing to provide feedback regarding my recent interaction with a volunteer staff member named Karul over the phone, about a couple of months ago. During my interactions with him, I found his tone of voice to be aggressive, abrupt, and lacking empathy. He did not come across as friendly or supportive, and the manner in which questions were asked felt confrontational rather than helpful. This was evident across multiple calls. After the initial call, Karul contacted me a second time to ask additional questions, and then again a third time with further queries. While I understand that follow-up may be necessary to gather information, the tone and delivery across these interactions remained abrupt and unprofessional, which made the experience uncomfortable and stressful. I fully appreciate that Marrickville Legal Centre relies on volunteers and that the work they do is important and often demanding. However, even in a volunteer capacity, there should be clear expectations and better training around professionalism, customer service, and empathy, particularly when dealing with people who may already be in vulnerable or stressful situations.
