My partner and I recently purchased our first property in the ACT not knowing the finer details of property law in the Territory. I was advised prior to engagement that there was plenty of capacity to take on my request though this seems to have been inaccurate. Very hard to reach via phone and often slow in responding to email with the reasoning being staff absent making process times longer. Vital information was not passed on to me through the contract review which meant large fees we were not expecting surrounding property inspections. The purchase was of the property we were renting at the time with little correspondence between seller and buyer solicitors resulting in rental reimbursement not being factored into settlement figures and a drawn out process to recoup these funds. Adding to our concerns there was little care shown by Natasha and it seemed as though it was a huge inconvenience. No care to correct her mistake which was of significant financial consequence to us. For first time buyers I had hoped for a more informative approach given I explicitly stated I had no experience in ACT property purchases. Provided quick processing times when it mattered most though correspondence was often abrasive and I felt as though I was a burden. Would highly recommend going through each document carefully yourself and not relying solely on advice or information from legal advisors especially if you are from interstate!
