Caxton Legal Centre

Caxton Legal Centre is a community legal centre in Brisbane that gives free legal help and social support to Queenslanders who are disadvantaged or on a low income. It has helped people since 1976.

It helps with family law, domestic and family violence, elder abuse, unfair dismissal, sexual harassment, debt and consumer problems, retirement villages, disasters and coronial matters. Social workers work alongside the lawyers.

Call the free helpline to book an appointment. Caxton does not act in immigration, wills and estates, workers compensation or personal injury matters, and it keeps lists of private practices that can help with those.

Caxton has its office on Level 23, 179 Turbot Street, Brisbane. It serves people across Queensland, with phone help open to all callers statewide. Some services, such as Court Plus for Men, are for the Greater Brisbane region.

Caxton's main work is family law, domestic and family violence, elder abuse and employment law, including unfair dismissal and sexual harassment. It also helps with financial abuse, credit and debt, retirement villages, sexual violence, disaster recovery, coronial matters and public law. Its specialist services include a Seniors Legal and Support Service and a Domestic Violence Duty Lawyer. All legal help is free, and the website offers multilingual factsheets for seniors.
