North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service

The North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service (NAAFLS) helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who face domestic, family and sexual violence. It gives legal advice and court representation, along with support, education and advocacy.

NAAFLS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation. Its services are culturally safe and trauma informed, and they are free. The team specialises in reaching people in remote communities through the bush court system.

NAAFLS has offices in Darwin (Casuarina), Katherine and Nhulunbuy. It serves the Top End, East Arnhem and Big Rivers regions of the Northern Territory, including the Tiwi Islands. The service covers more than 350,000 km² and specialises in remote communities.

NAAFLS works on matters relating to domestic, family and sexual violence. Its lawyers give legal advice and represent clients in court, and its support team helps clients through the legal process. The Leaving Violence Program offers practical help such as transport, food, rent and safety planning for up to 12 weeks. NAAFLS also runs community legal education and advocates for policy and law reform.
