Top End Women's Legal Service

Top End Women's Legal Service (TEWLS) gives free, confidential legal help to women and non-binary people across the Top End of the Northern Territory. It is a not-for-profit community legal centre based in Darwin.

The service helps with family law, migration law, employment law, housing and tenancy, deceased estates, compensation, discrimination and debt. It also has specialist knowledge of domestic, family and sexual violence.

Clients get trauma-informed and culturally secure advice, and interpreters are free. Ongoing casework and court representation are offered case by case, where there is hardship or another barrier to justice.

TEWLS has one office at Ground Floor, 17 Lindsay Street, Darwin. It serves women and non-binary people in the Greater Darwin region, and helps with some areas of law across the Northern Territory. Appointments are held at the office, at clinic locations, by phone or by video.

TEWLS is a specialist domestic, family and sexual violence service. Its lawyers advise on family law, migration law, employment law and workplace sexual harassment, tenancy, deceased estates, compensation, discrimination and debt. Advice is free, and the service arranges interpreters at no cost, including Auslan. It won a 2019 NT Human Rights Award, the Fitzgerald Justice Award.
